A College Education Doesn’t Have To Break The Bank

It would be hard to find a family that isn’t trying to cut back because of the recession.  A lot of us pack our lunch for work, have gone back to basic cable, are wearing last years coat and aren’t planning a great vacation.

Welcome to the 21st Century – Earning your High School Diploma Online

Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have opted for an online high school diploma if it had been available to me.  I really enjoyed the social aspect of high school, seeing my friends, going to football games, attending dances…to me these were the reward of attending 4 years of high school.

I do remember kids in my class who probably would have jumped at the chance to get a diploma without attending 4 years of high school.  There were some who didn’t enjoy the social aspect,  I remember a couple who had behavioral issues, and there were those who needed to or wanted to work.  No matter what the reason the choice to earn their high school diploma on line rather in class would have been appealing to them.

There Is More Than One Way To Earn A High School Diploma

If you look online you’ll find more ways to earn a high school diploma than ever before.  There’s the traditional 4 year high school program, the GED (General Education Diploma),  Job Corps programs, Completion programs and the fastest growing group…online or virtual programs…you’ll find public schools that offer entire high school programs online and charter schools that offer online or virtual programs.

The importance of a high school diploma can be seen in your future earning potential.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that those with a high school diploma earn $9,000 more a year than those who don’t.

Have You Thought About Earning a College Degree Online?

I have thought about heading back to and getting a more times than I can count.  There certainly would be benefits to doing it…promotions, raises, and a sense of accomplishment to name a few.

Then reality sets in and I think, “who am I kidding?”  Where would I get the money to pay for tuition, books and supplies?  Where would I find the time?  Like most of us I work and have a family, so going back to college full time is definitely out and even night or weekend classes would be hard to manage.
